Rørbæk Church

Rørbæk Church

Rørbæk Church was probably built in the 12th century, like many other churches in the area.

The church is built in Romanesque style from finely cut granite ashlars and stands as a simple and beautiful example of early Danish church architecture.

In the past, the church had both a tower and a porch on the south side. Sometime in the 19th century, however, both the tower and the porch were demolished, probably because they were in poor condition. The tower room at the western end of the church was preserved and today serves as the church porch, with an entrance from the south side.

In 1892, a wooden spire was added on top of the tower room as a kind of replacement for the former church tower.

The interior of the church was thoroughly restored in 1998. Today, the church room appears harmonious, with a fine balance between the old altarpiece and pulpit from the 17th century and the newer, warm colours of the interior.
