With these three routes, you can explore the history and significance of the springs. Whether you prefer a short walk through town, a longer historical tour or a child-friendly experience, you can discover Roskilde’s springs at your own pace and let the stories of the water guide you through the town.
Three Routes through the City of Springs
If you would like to experience Roskilde’s springs at your own pace, you can choose between three different routes. The short route takes you past Rektorkilden, Maglekilde and Sankt Hans Kilde, offering a concentrated insight into the history of the springs in the heart of the town. It is ideal if you have limited time but still wish to experience the distinctive atmosphere surrounding the springs.
The long route takes you past seven of the town’s springs and combines the stories of the water with visits to Roskilde Cathedral (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Viking Ship Museum and several medieval churches. Here, you will gain the full story of how the springs have shaped Roskilde over the centuries.
The family route has been specially designed for children and takes you on an approximately 7 km walk past seven springs, with small tasks and questions along the way. The route brings history to life and invites conversation, play and breaks with views, playgrounds and green spaces.
