Himmelsøen - The old gravel pit lake

Himmelsøen is a hidden natural gem surrounded by wild landscapes and beautiful views near Roskilde. Once a gravel pit, it is now a clear groundwater lake with inviting facilities and scenic walking trails. Visitors can swim, explore the paths around the lake and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.

The lake has a maximum depth of 11 metres and a 2-kilometre path encircling the water. A 140-metre floating bridge creates the unique sensation of walking on water. A sandy beach also invites visitors to take a refreshing swim in the clear lake.

Nature Experiences and Facilities

The area around Himmelsøen features varied trails where nature has developed freely since the former gravel excavation. By the lakeside, visitors will find a large bathing beach as well as a shelter and campfire site, making it suitable for both short visits and longer outdoor stays.

Visiting with Dogs

Dogs are welcome on walks around the lake. The scenic surroundings and well-maintained paths provide an ideal setting for a relaxing walk in nature for both owners and their four-legged companions.
