Sct. Jørgens Church

The church was built in 1903–04 by architect N. Jacobsen as a Free Congregation church. It was not affiliated with the Danish National Church until 1923, and the parish council took ownership in 1948. An extension was added in 1988 by architect E. Lehn Petersen.

The church has 150 seats and is popularly known as “æ lille kirk” (“the little church”).

Art

A relief by Nikolaus Wehding depicting a sacrificial scene from the Old Testament is set into the wall of the building.

In the glass corridor connecting the extension with the church:

In the room called the Havsteen Room there is a six-panel oil painting by Sv. Havsteen-Mikkelsen depicting the Passion of Jesus.

In the area behind the extension:
A sculpture by Nikolaus Wehding.

In April 1992, three stained-glass windows by Havsteen-Mikkelsen were installed in the choir of the church.

All the artwork in the church and its extension has been funded by foundations and through donations.
