Stay overnight in a distinctive landscape

The shelter is located in a former gravel pit where nature has been allowed to take over with lush vegetation and peaceful surroundings. There is space for up to six people, who can enjoy a night close to the lake and wake up to the sound of birds and still water. The area is sheltered and gives a feeling of being far away from everyday life, even though you are still close to both town and fjord. It is an ideal spot for families, hikers and cyclists looking for a simple and authentic nature experience.

Hiking, views and the fjord nearby

Just above the shelter site, Skuldelev Ridge stretches through the landscape with a hiking trail along the top. From here, you can walk all the way towards Roskilde Fjord and enjoy the wide, open views across the fjord landscape. The Fjord Trail passes through the area and connects Frederikssund and Skibby, making the shelter an ideal stop on a longer hiking or cycling trip. The Pontoppidan Route for cyclists also runs just a few hundred metres from the site.

Peace, campfires and fishing by the lake

At the shelter, you will find picnic tables and a campfire site, inviting you to enjoy dinner under the open sky and cosy hours around the fire. Fishing in the lake is permitted, adding extra calm and immersion to your stay. Firewood is provided on site, making it easy to light a fire and enjoy the evening. The combination of water, ridge and forested terrain creates a special atmosphere that makes the place well suited for relaxation and presence.

Practical information and booking

The shelter is free to use and operates on a first come, first served basis, but booking via Friluftsguiden is recommended to secure a place. With a valid booking confirmation, you have priority on arrival. The area is easily accessible from Kildeskåret in Skibby, and parking is available nearby on Østbyvej, just a few minutes’ walk from the shelter. Guests are asked to respect the applicable site rules so the area can continue to be enjoyed by everyone.
