At the end of the 19th century, women's living conditions were very different from today, and many of the rights we take for granted today did not exist at that time. Nevertheless, there were women in Bangsbo who defied the norms of the time and chose their own path in life.
The story "The Forgotten Women of Bangsbo" focuses on the women who were connected to the Bangsbo manor house during Johan Knudsen's time – both as maids and as part of the social environment of the house. Here we meet women from the upper middle class such as Eva Drachmann, Betty Nansen and Agnes Slott-Møller, but also women from the lower social classes.
What they all had in common was the strength, will and courage to resist the restrictions of their time – and their stories provide a nuanced insight into the lives of women and the nascent women's movement.
The event is for paying guests of the museum.
