Experience the historic watermill

Tadre Mølle is the last preserved of the many watermills that once lined the Elverdam Stream. The current mill building dates from the 19th century, but the mill’s history stretches back several centuries further. Visitors can explore the old milling machinery and gain insight into daily life and work at a traditional Danish watermill through the ages.

Today, the mill operates as a museum and cultural heritage site, where the buildings, interiors and surroundings together tell the story of life by the river and the history of milling in Denmark.

Nature and experiences in the Elverdam Valley

The area surrounding Tadre Mølle offers peaceful nature experiences in the scenic Elverdam Valley, located on Zealand, Denmark’s largest island. Visitors will find small walking paths, open meadows and streams that make the area ideal for walks in the protected landscape.

Many visitors combine their trip to the mill with a walk in nature or a quiet break by the millpond. The historic surroundings and varied scenery make Tadre Mølle a charming destination for both adults and children.

Café and shop in Mølle-Marie’s house

In “Mølle-Marie’s” house you will find Tadre Mølle’s small café and shop, where visitors can relax in historic surroundings. The shop sells freshly milled flour, honey, books and postcards featuring motifs from the mill and the Elverdam Valley area.

The café serves coffee, cold drinks, cake and traditional sweets. Both the café and shop are run by volunteers from the Friends of Tadre Mølle association, and all profits support the preservation and development of the mill and its buildings.

Events and activities

Throughout the year, various events are held at Tadre Mølle. One of the best-known is the traditional Kildemarked fair, when the area is filled with historic atmosphere, market stalls and activities for the whole family.

Special mill days and themed activities are also organised, giving visitors the chance to experience the mill in operation and learn more about the site’s history and traditional crafts.
