Blåvand Beach is one of the most distinctive beaches on Denmark's North Sea coast, beautifully located at Denmark's westernmost point near Blåvandshuk Lighthouse. Here, you will find a wide sandy beach surrounded by open landscapes and dune scenery, with views across the sea towards the Horns Rev offshore wind farm. The southern part of the beach is particularly well known for its calm, shallow bathing waters, where the gentle waves make it ideal for families and relaxing days by the sea. The northern section, by contrast, offers a more rugged natural setting and the classic atmosphere of Denmark's west coast.

Blåvandshuk Lighthouse

From the top of Blåvandshuk Lighthouse, you can enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the beautiful coastline and the stunning natural landscapes of West Jutland. Blåvands Huk is Denmark's westernmost point. The lighthouse stands on Horns Bjerge, 18 metres above sea level, and rises to a height of 39 metres. Its light reaches up to 42 kilometres and was first lit in 1900. It continues to guide mariners by warning them of the Horns Rev reef.

Bathing Point Award

Blåvand Beach has received the Bathing Point Award, recognising its excellent bathing conditions, high water quality and focus on safe and varied experiences along Denmark's North Sea coast. The beach offers toilet facilities, lifesaving equipment and lifeguards during the summer season. An accessible toilet is available by the car park, although the access route to the beach is not suitable for people with reduced mobility.

Arrival, parking and facilities
Parking is available at Blåvandshuk Lighthouse (Fyrvej 106, 6857 Blåvand). Toilet facilities, including an accessible toilet, are available on site. There is also a kiosk nearby.

Information
The beach has held the Bathing Point Award since 2020. Information about bathing water quality, water safety and the Bathing Point Award is available at the car park. The beach is car-free.

For visitors
Blåvand Beach differs from a typical North Sea beach because the seabed slopes only very gently, creating shallow water that extends a long way from the shore. There are no strong North Sea currents, and only gentle waves reach the sandy beach. These conditions make the beach exceptionally family-friendly, allowing children to play safely in the water.

These unique conditions are created by Horns Rev, a reef stretching approximately 40 kilometres into the North Sea. The reef forms an almost lagoon-like environment which, together with the many white dunes, creates a beautiful, peaceful and sheltered setting.

Blåvand North Beach and Horns Rev are also regarded as the two best places in Denmark for searching for amber – often referred to as the gold of the North Sea. This is also due to the gently sloping seabed, as anything washed ashore tends to remain on the beach.
