Circus Princess Schumann and the Horses

Katja Schumann has performed in the circus ring since childhood and toured across Europe. Today, she lives on a country estate just outside Løkken, where she runs Cirkusgården (The Circus Farm).

This is not a traditional circus with a tent and travelling shows – instead, you step into a truly special world where a large barn has been transformed into a permanent arena, and the farm itself forms the setting for the experience.

At Cirkusgården, you can enjoy live performances focused on the art of working with horses – a discipline for which the Schumann name is world-renowned. Here, elegance, calm, and respect come together in an intimate experience, where the magic of the circus arises from the close collaboration between animals and humans. From time to time, guest performers also appear, meaning the shows may vary from week to week.

You can also explore the proud heritage of the Schumann family through smaller exhibitions that tell the story of one of the world’s most famous circus dynasties. Katja Schumann works passionately to preserve this unique cultural heritage and pass it on to future generations.

A visit to Cirkusgården is a top experience in Løkken for both children and adults, offering a close encounter with history, the horses, and the very special atmosphere.

Season 2026

The summer season at Cirkusgården 2026 starts on Saturday, June 27 and ends on Sunday, August 9. Performances take place from Tuesday to Sunday.

Shows begin at 4:00 PM and last approximately 1.5 hours including an intermission.
Doors open at 3:00 PM.

Group and association performances can be arranged by appointment.

It is permitted to bring dogs to Cirkusgården, as long as they are kept on a leash. Service dogs are, of course, also welcome.

Bringing your own food is not allowed. However, the kiosk is open before and during the performances, where you can purchase popcorn, sweets, soft drinks, coffee, and more.

A new generation in the arena

Today, it is not only Katja Schumann who carries on the traditions. The young Liv has become a natural part of daily life at Cirkusgården and works closely with Katja.

As part of the performances, she helps convey the special art of circus work with horses, where the interaction between human and animal is at the heart of it all. Together, they represent both a proud history and a new generation helping to keep the magic of the circus alive for future audiences.

Life at Cirkusgården has also inspired the documentary film A Place in the Arena, created by the local production company Dune Productions. With roots in the area, the film has helped bring this unique West Coast cultural heritage – from the arena in Løkken to a wider audience in Danish homes.
