The Guard Hussars ride through Slagelse

The Byridt – the Guard Hussars' ride through the centre of Slagelse – sets off on Wednesdays at 12:30 from Slotsallé and continues through the streets and squares of the town centre before returning to Slotsallé.

Parts of the route may change due to roadworks and building work in Slagelse. Changes and cancellations are possible, so it is worth checking locally for the current arrangement.

What you will see along the way

At Slotsallé stands a 30-metre flagpole raised in 1969. Official flag-flying is handled by the Guard Hussar Regiment.

Slagelse Kloster dates back to a foundation established in 1585. All the monastery buildings are listed and today contain 33 flats. The Church of the Holy Spirit, built as an extension of the old monastery at Bredegade 7, was erected in 1864–65 to replace the building partly demolished in 1862. It has no tower, but a bell hangs in the eastern gable. Inside the Holy Spirit House you can see the fine frescoes "Mercy" and "Gratitude" by Niels Larsen Stevns from 1938.

On Korsgade, in the courtyard of the central library, stands the granite sculpture "A New Memorial".
