The Town of Christmas Hearts

From 23rd of November 2024 you can enjoy yourself again in the Christmas market ("Julehjertebyen") at the old trainstation of Aabenraa, where you can experience Christmas as in 1850.

Christmas is known as the "festival of hearts" and in Aabenraa this concept has an extra dimension. Here, several volunteers initiatives make sure that Christmas brings a little extra for those who need it the most.

The town of Christmas Hearts - "Julehjertebyen" is located at the old railway station. Traditional Danish Christmas treats such as doughnuts ("æbleskiver") and rice pudding ("risengrød") are made on old-fashioned burning stoves and given out free of charge in order to warm the hearts of visitors.

The idea of the town of Christmas Hearts was to create a place in Aabenraa in which people can experience Christmas in a historic setting as it was in the year 1850. The town of Christmas Hearts consists of wooden houses that are replicas of a number of the town's old buildings such as the town hall, the church of Sct. Jørgen, the inn Sdr. Hostrup Kro, the Folkehjemmet meeting house and the railway station.

The town of Christmas Hearts opens again on November 23rd and closes on December 23rd 2024.
