The Louns Peninsula stretches into the Limfjord and is bordered by Risgårde Bredning to the north and Louns Bredning to the south. The rolling landscape, with wind-shaped scrub, scenic viewpoints and deep ravines, has attracted people since the Stone Age. The soil was suitable for farming and cattle grazing, while the coastal meadows supported fishing and trade.   Because the peninsula appears as an extended arm of Vesthimmerland towards Salling, it became a natural location for ferry connections. To the east, Louns transitions into meadow and farmland where heathland and sandy soil once dominated. The road between Løgstør and Viborg runs through the area from north to south and has for centuries been used by pilgrims, traders and cattle drivers.   Today, several marked hiking routes invite visitors to explore the landscape.   Red Route – 5.5 km Along the route you pass burial mounds and the Ice Age formations at Knudshoved, where the different geological layers are visible. You will also pass Herregården Hessel, a historic manor that now functions as an agricultural museum. A nature base with shelters, fire pit, toilet and water is located along the route.   Yellow Route – 5 km circular route This walk offers varied scenery with fields, forests, meadows and coastline. Along the way you reach Meldbjerg Hoved, where traces from the last three Ice Ages can still be seen.   Green Route – 5 km This route passes a burial mound and continues to the area known as Store Ramshule, with deep ravines and high hills covered with juniper bushes.   Blue Route – 5.2 km circular route A varied hike through forest, farmland, heath and coastal landscapes. You will also pass a burial mound and the historic manor Herregården Hessel, which today is a museum.
