Verdenskortet – take the whole family around the world

Travel around the world in just one afternoon! On the shores of Lake Klejtrup lies Verdenskortet – a unique world map where continents, countries, lakes, rivers and mountain ranges have been recreated in miniature.

Walk from Denmark to Africa, continue towards Asia and cross the Atlantic to America. Along the way, you can explore the different countries, spot flags from around the world and discover just how big – and small – the world can be.

Play, animals and family fun

There is much more to Verdenskortet than the world map itself. With plenty of space for play and activities, it is a great place to spend a day with the family. Children can go on a treasure hunt around the park, meet the animals in the petting area and have fun on the nature playground.

You can also explore “Det Grønne Hjørne”, where games and activities offer a fun introduction to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

And if you fancy taking to the water, children can enjoy a little boat trip on the Pacific Ocean – without having to travel to the other side of the world.

Take a break by Lake Klejtrup

When your legs need a rest after travelling around the world, find a spot in the green surroundings by Lake Klejtrup. Bring a picnic and settle down in the park, or visit the café for something to eat and drink.

The story behind a unique idea

Verdenskortet was created by Danish-American Søren Poulsen between 1944 and 1969. It all began when he found a stone that reminded him of the shape of Jutland. From there, the idea grew to create the entire world in miniature on the shores of Lake Klejtrup.

The map measures approximately 45 × 90 metres, and one degree of latitude – 111 kilometres in the real world – measures just 27 centimetres on the map. As it is difficult to represent a round globe on a flat surface, the Northern Hemisphere is shown in two places.

So put on your walking shoes, bring the family and see how many countries you can visit in just one day.
