Viking graves in Bryndum

In connection with the construction of the new parish community center in 2016, archaeologists from Museum VEST excavated a burial site from the 9th century.

The burial site consisted of 14 burial graves and, judging by the size of the graves, at least four of them were children down to infant age. The skeletons of the buried were not preserved, but a couple of the graves contained unique finds of jewelry and textiles that have contributed to new knowledge about Viking Age women's fashion and bear witness to the buried' connections to England during the same period as the early Viking raids.

The graves were subsequently marked in the pavement with granite stone powder and outlines of corten steel.

A small recreational area has been set up at the burial site where you can take a rest during your walk or bike ride and, there is free access to the parish community center during the day.
