At the old Kongsgaarden in Vester Broby, south of Sorø, you can explore the beautiful Suså valley along two marked hiking routes on the farm's own land. The trails were established in cooperation with the Danish Society for Nature Conservation in Sorø and lead you through a protected ice-age landscape with meadows, river valley and views over Zealand's largest river.

The routes are marked with poles bearing coloured arrows – or arrows painted directly on the trees – so you can easily follow them around the landscape near the farm. Along the way you come close to nature in one of West Zealand's finest river valleys, where the Suså winds its way towards its outlet into Tystrup Lake.

It is a walk for everyone who enjoys peaceful nature experiences at both a child's and an adult's level. Take a rest by the river, listen to the birdlife and feel the stillness of the open landscape. The trails can be walked separately or combined into a longer route.

Kongsgaarden lies in the middle of the protected Tystrup-Bavelse area of some 3,000 hectares – part of Tystrup-Bavelse Nature Park. From here there are connections further out into the landscape: the European long-distance path E6 passes through Vester Broby by the farm, and just below, the path leads over the Bridge across the Suså towards Næsby.

The area offers a rich animal and plant life, and the meadows by the Suså flood in winter, so the landscape changes character with the seasons. For more inspiration on nature and excursions in the area, you can explore the possibilities at Destination Sjælland, where all of West Zealand unfolds.

After your walk you can visit Kongsgaarden itself – the living farm museum – or stay overnight in the farm's hostel if you are on a hiking or cycling trip. Remember sturdy footwear, as the trails run through natural and at times wet terrain.

Bring the family, your friends or your hiking boots, and discover why the hiking routes at Kongsgaarden are a treasured starting point for nature walks in the heart of the Suså valley.
