The Kongsgaarden in Vester Broby, which is owned by the Lone and Ejler Kjær Larsen Foundation and operated by the Friends of Kongsgaarden, is located by the long-distance hiking route that goes from Nordkap to Greece, as well as by the Klosterruten hiking trail and the Munkevejen cycling route. The Friends of Kongsgaarden Association consists of dedicated volunteers who, among other things, organize activities throughout the year to raise funds for the site's operation and maintenance. Kongsgaarden functions as a nature, activity, and education center.

Kongsgaarden. Kongsgaarden's last owners – Lone and Ejler Kjær Larsen – wished that this old farm – a family farm through many generations, with a history going back to the Hvide family, and with surroundings bordering the Suså River, one of the most beautiful places in Denmark – should be opened to the public and serve as a gathering place and experience center focused on nature, agriculture, and local history. After Ejler Kjær Larsen's death, the Foundation was established in 2002 with Lone Kjær Larsen as chair until her death in 2006. She bequeathed the entire estate to the Foundation.

Whether you come walking along the Monastery Route or cycling along the Monk’s Road – or driving your own car, it’s worth making a stop at Kongsgaarden in Vester Broby. Here lies a cultural and historical gem set in some of Zealand’s most beautiful nature, with opportunities to stroll along the nature trails in the protected Suså Valley. The nature trails at Kongsgaarden near Vester Broby, south of Sorø, offer beautiful hikes in the protected Suså Valley area, where you can see free-roaming sheep on Møllebakken, frogs, roe deer, and pheasants along marked routes (e.g., the yellow route to Møllebakken of 1.3 km, or longer loop trails). There is a new footbridge over the Suså River for easier passage, and a rich natural environment with birdwatching and a pond (Dybkæret) where you can hear the frogs in the evening, all set around the old, historic Kongsgaarden farm.

A Four-Winged Farm with Hostel

In the main house of this old four-winged farm, which has been a family farm for generations since the 1800s, you can experience what a rural home looked like in the 1950s. There is also an exhibition about the history of the royal farm, country life, and some local history. The south wing and the threshing barn have been set up as community halls with the possibility of hosting gatherings, concerts, and more. In the barn, you can see machines and tools. The collection includes traditional tools from

the period around 1870-1970. The tools are used every year on harvest and threshing days. The pigsty has been converted into a hostel - a place to stay for walkers and cyclists. In addition to sleeping accommodations, there is a toilet and shower, as well as a small kitchenette.
