The Aarhus Festival
Aarhus Festival is among the largest cultural events in Scandinavia and showcases both local, national and international artists. Aarhus Festival is highly esteemed and recognized both in Denmark and abroad.
One of Northern Europe's largest cultural festivals
Every year in late summer, Aarhus is filled with art, culture and creativity when Aarhus Festuge sets the city in motion. The festival has been running since 1965 and is now one of Northern Europe's largest and most diverse cultural festivals. With a programme packed with music, performances, installations, talks, food experiences and urban space experiments, Aarhus Festuge is something you notice – everywhere.
Experiences in every corner of the city
The festival does not only take place on traditional stages – the whole of Aarhus becomes a stage. Streets, parks, museums, squares and empty buildings are transformed into places of experience and surprise. You can go from an intimate concert in a backyard to a magnificent light show on the city's rooftops or participate in an interactive installation in the middle of Strøget.
A cross-artistic universe
Aarhus Festuge brings together artists, performers and audiences from all over the world. Here, the local and the global, the narrow and the broad meet. The festival is curated based on an annual theme and offers everything from internationally renowned performances to experimental cultural projects and big names in music.
For children, adults and everyone in between
The programme has something for everyone – including families with children and young people. There are creative workshops, street theatre, family-friendly concerts and experiences tailored to children. At the same time, Aarhus Festuge attracts an adult audience with an appreciation for culture, debate and aesthetics. Many events are free and take place in the open air.
