Force Majeure

For sculptor Søren West, it is essential that his sculptures interact with their surroundings. Therefore, the work “Force Majeure” is not a random sculpture from storage but created specifically for Art Tower 8. Here, the sculpture engages in a dialogue with the tall space and its own shadow, creating a unique and dynamic experience for the viewer.

Søren West

Søren West, who lives and works at Egeskov Mill, has a close connection to South Langeland, where his parents live. Born in Copenhagen in 1963, he was educated at the Funen Art Academy from 1983 to 1988 and further trained at a stone workshop in Carrara, Italy. He specializes in working with stone, particularly granite, and is a member of both the Funen Sculptors' Workshops in Odense and the Danish Sculptors' Society.

West has been active as a teacher at high schools and the Kolding School of Crafts, conducting a series of courses and workshops in sculpture for both children and adults. He was the head of the sculpture department at the Svendborg Art School from 1992 to 1996 and of the school's project line from 2000 to 2001.

Søren West is known for integrating his sculptures harmoniously into their surroundings, making them vibrant parts of their environment. His works explore the materiality and visual potential of materials, inviting the viewer to reflect and immerse themselves. He has created a wide range of publicly accessible sculptures and decorations, both in Denmark and internationally.

Langeland's Art Towers - a unique way of experiencing art

Denmark's longest art exhibition can be experienced by visiting 12 former electrical transformer towers on Langeland. The art towers give visitors an artistic experience in the heart of the Langeland countryside.
From North to South and East to West, you can explore the cultural landscape and enjoy art in rural peace and quiet.

The towers are open all year round. A tour around them all will always offer a new experience, influenced by both the season and weather.
