Christmas in the Zoo

When Christmas arrives at Aalborg Zoo, familiar festive traditions are combined with new experiences among the zoo's animals. Christmas at the Zoo is an all-day experience, allowing you to begin your visit while it is still light, explore the animals and see the Christmas decorations in the winter daylight. As darkness falls, the Christmas lights come on and trees, pathways and large light installations transform the familiar zoo into an atmospheric winter landscape.

North Jutland's largest Christmas walk

The Christmas walk takes you through a variety of illuminated landscapes and festive settings. One of the established traditions is the magical Christmas tunnel in the aviary. Here, children and adults can write a wish, a message for someone they care about or a few words for nature. Over the years, tens of thousands of hearts have been hung in the tunnel, where they float above visitors as light and sound fill the space.

Christmas traditions for the whole family

At Lemurtorvet, you can explore a nostalgic Christmas setting with a carousel and a photo exhibition about Christmas in Aalborg through the years. Along the route, you can also meet Julemanden in Julemandens landsby, admire the large Christmas tree on the lawn and watch the zookeepers' festively decorated golf carts make their way through the zoo.

Christmas lights by the African savannah

At the African savannah, a quieter light experience awaits beneath the winter sky. From the large viewing area, illuminated trees and light installations create an atmospheric setting in the darkness. It is a place to stop for a moment and enjoy the contrast between the winter evening and the glowing Christmas lights.

The tastes and scents of Christmas

Throughout the zoo, you can also enjoy familiar Christmas aromas such as æbleskiver, roasted almonds, cinnamon and warming festive spices. Take a break by the crackling fire, warm your hands and enjoy something hot to eat or drink. At Orangeriet, seasonal Christmas specialities and hot drinks from Starbucks are also available.

Practical information about Christmas at the Zoo

Christmas at the Zoo can be experienced every day from 20 November through 28 December. The zoo opens at 10:00, giving you time to combine a visit to the animals with the Christmas attractions and experience the transition from daylight to the illuminated evening setting. Admission is DKK 199. Buy your ticket online through the Aalborg Zoo website to skip the queue and save DKK 10 per ticket.
