Ekkodalen is Bornholm’s largest rift valley

Ekkodalen in Almindingen on Bornholm is the island’s largest rift valley and stretches approximately 2 km through Almindingen. There are several pleasant hiking options in Ekkodalen and Almindingen, where you may also encounter Almindingen’s bison near Chr. Xs vej.

The beautiful natural surroundings of Ekkodalen

In Ekkodalen, you will find a protected forest that is almost 200 years old, as well as an abundance of lily of the valley around Pentecost. The very steep cliffs along one side of Ekkodalen are called “Styrtebakkerne”, or originally “Stortebakkene”, an old Bornholm expression for a sheer, vertical rock face.

The echo in Ekkodalen

When you visit Ekkodalen on Bornholm, be sure to test the echo. Try the classic Danish call “Hvad drikker Møller?” (“What does Møller drink?”) ….. Øller! (“Beer!”). Perhaps you have some other ideas of your own. The best echo in Ekkodalen can be heard at H.C. Ørsteds Kilde, approximately 20 meters to the left along the path at the entrance to Ekkodalen.

Round off your visit with a pleasant meal

After a walk in Ekkodalen, you can have lunch at Ekkodalshuset and enjoy one of their tartlets, famous throughout Denmark.
