Gavnø Castle Park

Gavnø Castle Park is known as one of Denmark’s most beautiful gardens, featuring colourful flower beds, ancient trees and experiences for both children and adults.

Beautifully located on the island of Gavnø near Næstved, the park is considered one of the country’s most atmospheric garden landscapes. The garden changes with the seasons, offering new colours and details every time you visit.

What can you experience in Gavnø Castle Park?

The park is designed with great variety and care. Spring brings vast displays of bulb flowers, followed by lush summer beds filled with perennials, rhododendrons, tuberous begonias and roses. The planting schemes are carefully composed so the expression evolves throughout the season, with blooms continuing well into autumn.

In the heart of the park stands the redwashed half-timbered building Skjærsommer. Originally created as a private retreat, it now houses a small and atmospheric exhibition that offers insight into life at Gavnø.

More than just a castle park

A visit to Gavnø Castle Park can easily be combined with other attractions on Gavnø. Here you will also find Gavnø Castle and Gavnø Abbey Church, as well as activities such as Go Fly treetop courses, a playground and petting animals. This makes the area ideal for both short visits and longer excursions.

If you need a break, you are welcome to enjoy your own picnic in the park or in the designated picnic area. Handcarts can also be rented if legs grow tired along the way.

Is Gavnø Castle Park suitable for children and dogs?

Gavnø Castle Park is an excellent destination for families with children. The open green spaces and many activities leave plenty of room for play and exploration. Dogs are welcome in the park as long as they are kept on a leash.

The park is also designed with accessibility in mind, including accessible toilets at the entrance and ramps at selected buildings.
