Find Fjordlandet’s Three Trolls in Roskilde and Hedeland
In Fjordlandet – a scenic region west of Copenhagen – you can meet three of Thomas Dambo’s famous recycled-wood trolls: Runde Rie, Glade Anders and Måne Mor. They are hidden in the landscapes around Roskilde and Hedeland, inviting children and adults alike to go on an outdoor troll hunt.
All the trolls are built from recycled wood, and visiting them is both a nature experience and a great opportunity to talk about reuse and sustainability. You can also see a full map of Thomas Dambo’s trolls in Denmark and around the world at Thomas Dambo’s Trollmap.
Runde Rie by the Lynghøjsøerne Lakes
Runde Rie lives at the water’s edge of one of the three lakes in the scenic area of Lynghøjsøerne, located just outside the city of Roskilde. She sits with a stick and a small rope, making it look as if she is quietly fishing in the calm surface of the lake.
The area is peaceful, family-friendly and ideal for a nature outing with children, grandparents or friends.
How to find Runde Rie
- Parking: Park at Lindenborgvej 45, 4000 Roskilde.
- Route: From here, it is about 1 km along easy paths.
- Accessibility: The walk is suitable for families with children.
Runde Rie was created in 2020 as part of “Den Store Troldefest” (The Great Troll Festival), making her a perfect first stop on your troll hunt.
Glade Anders in Hedeland Nature Park
Glade Anders stands in the forest in Hedeland Nature Park, not far from the local ski slope and outdoor amphitheatre — both well-known attractions in the park. He is known as a kind of “decoy troll”, drawing attention towards himself and away from his mother, Måne Mor.
To find him, follow the small clues, including a series of birdhouses that lead you along the forest paths. This turns the walk into a small treasure hunt, perfect for children.
How to find Glade Anders
- Parking: Park at Tranemosevej 8, 2640 Hedehusene.
- Route: The walk from the car park is approximately 1–1.3 km along forest paths.
- Combination trip: Glade Anders is only about 1 km from Måne Mor.
Glade Anders is a great choice if you want to combine your visit with a longer walk in Hedeland and then continue on to see Måne Mor.
Måne Mor in Hedeland Nature Park
Måne Mor is troll number 100 and is described by Thomas Dambo as the mother of all trolls. She is pregnant and hides deep in the forest, waiting peacefully to bring her troll child into the world.
Finding Måne Mor is a slightly more demanding and adventurous walk. She is not marked on the official troll map, but remains a hidden experience for the most curious visitors.
How to find Måne Mor
- Starting point: Begin at the same parking area as for Glade Anders, Tranemosevej 8.
- Route: From here, the path continues deeper into the forest along small trails.
- For the adventurous: The route is best suited for older children and adults who enjoy a real exploration.
If you love exploring, Måne Mor is a truly special reward for your efforts. To see an overview of other trolls in Denmark, visit Thomas Dambo’s Trollmap.
