A medieval church south of Aarhus
Kolt Church in Hasselager was built during the Romanesque period between around 1150 and 1250. The church consists of a chancel and a nave, whilst the porch and tower were added in the late Middle Ages. In 1433, the church is mentioned as having been consecrated to Our Lady.
Historical furnishings in the church interior
Inside the church, you can see, amongst other things, an altarpiece from around 1590 featuring more recent paintings by the artist Bodil Kaalund. In front of the chancel arch hangs an oak crucifix dating from 1450–1500, and the Romanesque granite baptismal font is adorned with human heads and lion’s bodies.
Pulpit, organ and coin find
The pulpit dates from the early 17th century, whilst the church’s organ was built in 1981 by Th. Frobenius & Sønner. During restoration work in 1956, craftsmen also found 28 coins in the church, adding yet another historical layer to the story of Kolt Church.
