A medieval church west of Aarhus

Ormslev Church stands on a hill in the village of Ormslev, west of Aarhus. The Romanesque nave is the oldest part of the church, whilst the chancel, porch, sacristy and tower were added in the late Middle Ages.

The whitewashed church has red tiled roofs and a low, lead-covered tower.

Late Gothic frescoes

In the chancel and sacristy, you can see frescoes dating from around 1490–1520. The decoration includes, amongst other things, plant motifs, masks, geometric borders and grotesque figures.

Historical furnishings

The church houses a Romanesque granite baptismal font, an altarpiece from around 1590 and a pulpit with a sounding board from around 1640. There are also several tomb slabs from the 18th century.
