Stenvad Church
Stenvad Church on Djursland is a relatively new village church, built in 1959 thanks to strong local commitment. Here, you’ll discover a church history characterised by community spirit, determination and popular support.

A relatively new church with a rich local history
Stenvad Church was built in 1959 and is one of the few Danish village churches to have been built after the Second World War. The church tells the story of a close-knit local community that worked tirelessly to establish its own church in Stenvad.
From idea to completed church
The work began with the establishment of a church fund, and it took 15 years before the church was completed. By the end of the first year, more than 120,000 kroner had already been raised in the form of cash, timber and materials.
The fundraising campaign received support from over 1,200 people, demonstrating just how deeply rooted the desire for a church in Stenvad was.
Architecture and consecration
Architect Harald Lønborg-Jensen was involved in the project from an early stage. Following his death in 1948, architect A.V. Ravn from Grenaa took over the work.
Stenvad Church was consecrated on Sunday 14 June 1959 with music, a choir and a cantata written by Professor Johannes Sløk, set to music by the composer Bent Lorentzen.
