A remote overnight on the Jyderupstien

Vedsøvang is the shelter site for those who truly want to get out — those who don't mind walking a stretch of cart track to get there, and who appreciate being the only company in the forest. The site sits on the edge of Vedsø Vang, a deciduous woodland east of Boeslunde in Slagelse Municipality, and is linked to the regional long-distance trail Jyderupstien. Access is from Boeslundehallen on Borgbjergvej — from there a cart track leads into the woods and to the shelter site.

Ice-age landscape and moraine hills

The landscape around Vedsøvang was shaped by glaciers. Moraine hills create an undulating terrain that is unusual for Zealand, and from the highest points views open across fields, woodland edges, and — on clear days — all the way to the Great Belt on the horizon. Vedsø Vang is predominantly beech and oak forest, and on early spring mornings the forest floor is covered with white wood anemones and the scent of wild garlic. Roe deer are permanent residents, and woodpeckers and jays are clearly heard in the quiet morning hours.

The Jyderupstien — walking across the land

The Jyderupstien is a long-distance trail connecting the Slagelse area with Jyderup to the northeast. The route passes through a varied landscape of forests, fields, and villages, and Vedsøvang is a natural overnight stop for those walking the trail in stages. It is one of those routes in West Zealand that offers the chance to experience the hinterland's varied nature over several days — far from motorways and urban noise.

Silence as luxury

What defines Vedsøvang is the absence of noise. No traffic sounds, no neighbours, no city lights. At night the stars are fully visible, and in the morning it is the birds that wake you. Things to do nearby

Boeslunde is a small village with a church and rural atmosphere. Slagelse lies about 10 km to the north with the Viking fortress Trelleborg, a shopping street, and a railway station. To the southwest the roads lead to the coast at Skælskør and Korsør, where a hike can be combined with a day at the beach. The Boeslunde river valley south of the shelter site is an open meadow landscape with streams and birdlife — lapwings and starlings thrive here. The shelter site is booked through the Slagelse Municipality website. As the site is remote, it is advisable to plan your trip and bring everything you need. Access from Borgbjergvej via cart track — best suited for walkers and cyclists. Accessible year-round.
