Shelter site in Vollerup Forest – group overnight stay near Kalundborg

Vollerup Forest sits like a green pocket in the landscape between Kalundborg and the Røsnæs peninsula, and in the heart of the forest hides a shelter site made for groups with a passion for outdoor life. Here there are no neighbours, no light pollution and no disturbances – only the sounds of the forest and the chance to sleep under a roof with the sky as the only view through the shelter opening.

A site designed for groups

The shelter site in Vollerup Forest is one of the larger ones in Kalundborg Municipality and can accommodate up to fifteen people. The shelter is complemented by picnic benches and a campfire pit, so the group can gather for cooking and socialising under open skies. This makes the site particularly well suited for scout groups, larger family gatherings or groups of friends who want to share a night in the forest without compromising on the outdoor experience.

Nature in Vollerup Forest

The forest is a mixed woodland of deciduous and coniferous trees with a wealth of trails winding between the trunks. In spring the forest floor is covered with anemones and wild garlic, while autumn brings mushrooms and colourful leaf fall. Vollerup Forest is also the starting point for a heart trail – a marked fitness route through varied terrain suited to both runners and walkers. The route offers a fine insight into the different biotopes of the forest and is a good alternative to the better-known hiking trails on Røsnæs.

Close to Røsnæs and the Great Belt

From Vollerup Forest it is a short distance to the Røsnæs peninsula, one of West Zealand's most dramatic natural areas with steep coastal cliffs, wild flora and panoramic views across the Great Belt. Røsnæs is known for its orchids in summer and migratory birds in spring and autumn. The Nature Centre on Røsnæs presents the geology and nature of the peninsula and makes an obvious stop along the way. To the east lies Kalundborg town with its Viking landscape, ferry harbour and the iconic five-towered Church of Our Lady.
