The park is situated not far from the center of Aalborg – a 6.2 hectare city-park landscaped in 1959/1960 around the small castle ‘Sohngårdsholm’.
Crab apple trees
At the park one can among other things see one of Denmark’s largest collections of crab apple trees. There was approximately 300 apple trees with more than 120 sorts of ornamental apple trees, primarily with crab apples. Meanwhile, in 2007 the population was thinned out, so that only approximately 150 remained during the following year.
‘Sohngårdsholmparken’ is a unique fruit-oasis in the big city where especially those interested in apples can combine history and relaxation in nature.
It is possible to get there by car, bicycle, bus lines 2, 14 and 15 or on foot.
