Stay overnight in an art shelter

The five shelters are designed as small sculptural spaces, each with room for up to six people. They are made of aluminium and lined with wood and coloured wool felt. The windows and skylights vary in colour and pattern from shelter to shelter.

The shelters were completed in 2023 following an art competition won by the artist group N55. Their design is inspired by the shape and geometry of a sea urchin.

Facilities at the shelter site

If you have booked one or more shelters, you can use the facilities at Det Fælles Mødested right next to the site. Here you will find hot water for washing up and an outdoor cooking area with rocket stoves and pizza ovens. There are also five fire pits. The facilities are accessible, and Det Fælles Mødested is open around the clock.

Practical information before your stay

The art shelters can be booked individually, and it is also possible to reserve all five. If you want to book the entire site, you need to contact the Nature School. An overnight stay is normally booked from 3 pm until 10 am the following morning.

Parking is available at Rolighedsvej 100, 5220 Odense SØ. From here, it is just under 500 metres to the shelter site, so it is worth keeping the walk in mind if you are bringing a lot of gear.

From gravel pits to nature area

Tarup-Davinde is a cultural landscape shaped by both the Ice Age and many years of gravel extraction. During the last Ice Age, large deposits of sand, gravel and stones were left in the area, and these raw materials have been extracted here since the 20th century. Gravel extraction has created the many lakes and varied landscape that characterise Tarup-Davinde today. Former gravel pits are gradually being transformed into nature areas open to the public.
