Stige Island - Hiking Huts by the Sea
The shelter site on Stige Ø consists of three shelters with room for 18 people. They are just a few metres from the water, with open views across Odense Fjord and close to the trail around the peninsula. The site can be booked in advance and is suitable for families and groups.

Shelter accommodation by Odense Fjord
The three shelters are positioned in a row on the edge of the woodland, close to the fjord. You stay just a few metres from the water, with wide views across Odense Fjord. There is a shared fire pit by the shelters for cooking and spending time together.
The shelters have wooden floors, so remember to bring a sleeping bag and sleeping mat.
Facilities at the shelter site
Drinking water is available near the shelters, and there is also a toilet in the area. The toilet facilities are seasonal and may be closed during the winter months.
Practical information before your stay
The shelter site can be booked in advance, and guests with a reservation have priority. It is about a 15-minute walk from the parking area to the shelters, which is worth bearing in mind if you are carrying a lot of gear.
Tents are not permitted on Stige Ø because gas may seep up from the ground. Open, well-ventilated bivouacs are permitted.

From landfill to outdoor recreation area
Stige Ø has an unusual history. The area is man-made and was used as a landfill for many years until it closed in 1994. Since then, Stige Ø has been transformed into a large outdoor recreation area with trails, viewpoints and plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities by Odense Fjord.
