Cool Climate Sparkling Wine from the Island of Møn - Danish terroir at its best

From Burgundy to Basnæs – Cool Climate Sparkling Wine from Beautiful Møn

Kalum Winery is located on West Møn with south-facing slopes descending towards the sea. Here, the unique microclimate provides ideal conditions for cultivating the classic Champagne grapes: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier. Inspired by Champagne, our ambition is to create Cool Climate Sparkling Wine following the same principles and traditions.

Behind the winery stands winemaker HC Ambjerg, who returned to Denmark after ten years of producing elegant, award-winning wines in Burgundy. He brought with him a vision to craft both still and sparkling wines of the highest quality – while also sharing the wonderful wines he brought back from Burgundy.

The vines on Møn are still young, and – as the “sensitive souls” they are – they need time to mature. Only after a few years can they be harvested, and then the wines must age for an additional 2–4 years before release. The first vintage, 2021, sold out quickly, and now the winery eagerly awaits the next vintage, expected to be released in 2026.

Visitors are welcome to enjoy the scenic vineyards along Basnæsvej, though the winery itself is only open on selected dates, announced through the newsletter at www.kalumwinery.com.

Kalum Winery beautifully combines the experience gained in Burgundy with the natural gifts of Møn – and we look forward to a sparkling future for Danish Cool Climate Wine on Møn!
