Roskilde Art Association
Exhibitions and cultural events in the beautiful yellow Palace Wing at Stændertorvet.

In the heart of Roskilde, visitors can enjoy inspiring art exhibitions, artist talks, concerts, literary salons, lectures, and exhibition openings at the Palæfløjen Art House.
The Palace Wing is run by the Roskilde Art Association, founded in 1940. It is one of Denmark’s oldest art associations, yet also among the most dynamic and active. With more than 700 members, it is one of the largest art associations in the country.
The association keeps its finger firmly on the pulse, which is clearly reflected in the wide range of activities and exhibitions available throughout the year for both children and adults.
High standards in the selection of artists
One of the distinctive features of the Palace Wing is its combination of major flagship exhibitions alongside shows featuring local artists. The selection of artists is broad and characterised by high quality, with a strong focus on nurturing emerging talent.
Each year, the Roskilde Art Association organises Roskilde Open – a large, jury-selected exhibition featuring works by both established and emerging artists. Three jurors review typically between 700 and 850 submitted works and select around 60–75 pieces to be exhibited at the Palace Wing in the beautiful Yellow Palace in the centre of Roskilde. Prizes are awarded to the three best works or artists.
Part of the Cultural Promenade – cultural experiences within walking distance
The Roskilde Art Association is housed in the Palace Wing of the Royal Palace from 1735 and forms part of the Cultural Promenade – a collaborative initiative between nine cultural institutions located in central Roskilde.
The Cultural Promenade runs parallel to Algade, starting at Stændertorvet near Roskilde Cathedral and the City Hall, passing through the beautiful Yellow Palace and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
From there, it continues across the cobbled square by Roskilde Museum and along the green pathway past the city’s creative centre for children at Algade 31, Roskilde Abbey, and the Library Garden at Roskilde Library. Along the Cultural Promenade, visitors of all ages can enjoy a wide range of cultural experiences within easy walking distance.
