The tent site is situated at Skellebjerg Vænge, a small woodland just under 500 metres west of the village of Skellebjerg. From here you enjoy views across the undulating moraine landscape that is characteristic of this part of central Zealand. The spot is roughly halfway along the Jyderupstien, making it a natural place to split the hike over two days. The nearest larger town is Sorø, approximately 10 kilometres to the southeast, while Slagelse can be reached in around 15 kilometres to the west.

A tent site for long-distance hikers

Skellebjerg Vænge is not an ordinary campsite — it is reserved exclusively for users of the Jyderupstien, and overnight stays are limited to one night only. Tents must be cleared between 12 noon and 3 pm so the site is ready for the next group of hikers. These rules reflect the site's character as a simple rest stop for people on the move, not a destination in itself. There are no facilities such as toilets or drinking water, so it is advisable to fill up your water bottle before arriving.

The landscape along the Jyderupstien

The Jyderupstien follows the disused railway line between Høng and Tølløse and passes through some of Zealand's most varied nature. Around Skellebjerg the landscape is shaped by the gentle hills of Ice Age moraines, cultivated fields and small patches of woodland. It is a quiet, peaceful corner of West Zealand, far from motorways and urban bustle. In spring, wood anemones carpet the forest floor, and in summer the cornfields ripple as far as the eye can see. Bird life is abundant, with skylarks singing over the fields and raptors circling above the ridgelines.

The full Jyderupstien is approximately 60 kilometres long, connecting Jyderup in the north with Skælskør in the south. The route is suitable for both hikers and cyclists and passes through very different landscape types — from the expansive wetlands of Åmosen through the forests near Sorø to the coastal scenery at Skælskør Fjord. Along the way there are several overnight options, including shelter sites at Vedsøvang and Kongskilde, making it easy to split the journey into stages. The trail is well marked and relatively flat, as it follows the old railway embankment.
