Sticks'n'Sushi Nansensgade

Sticks’n’Sushi on Nansensgade is not just another restaurant – it is the place where the entire Sticks’n’Sushi adventure began.

In the small basement at Nansensgade 59, Jens and Kim Rahbek, together with Thor Andersen, opened the doors to the very first Sticks’n’Sushi in 1994. Here, Copenhageners were greeted for the first time with a warm “Irasshaimase” and introduced to the combination of freshly made sushi and grilled sticks, which has since become an iconic hallmark.

The restaurant remains intimate and close to the street, where the gentle rhythm of Nansensgade passes just outside the windows. The interior reflects Japanese simplicity combined with Copenhagen edge – a place where the history can still be felt in the walls and where craftsmanship takes centre stage. It is a setting where tradition and modernity meet, creating an atmosphere that feels both authentic and inviting.

The menu blends Japanese techniques with Nordic aesthetics. From delicate nigiri and colourful maki rolls to succulent sticks from the grill – everything is prepared with precision and respect for the ingredients. When the weather allows, guests can take a seat on the cosy terrace and enjoy their meal in the heart of the city, close to the lakes, Torvehallerne and Nørreport.

For larger gatherings, the Sushi Suite is located just a few steps further down the street – a private dining room with space for up to 28 guests for dinner or 40 for receptions. An exclusive setting where friends, family or colleagues can come together for a truly special experience.

Sticks’n’Sushi Nansensgade is a piece of Copenhagen’s restaurant history – a place where the passion for Japanese craftsmanship and Danish hospitality continues to thrive.
