Dianaloopet is a set of three walking routes of varying lengths, all starting and ending in the centre of Dianalund in Sorø Municipality. The routes were created by local enthusiasts and offer a fine introduction to the rolling landscape and rich nature surrounding this small town between Sorø and Holbæk. Whether you have an hour or half a day, there is a route to suit you – from a short town loop to longer walks through fields and forest.

Dianalund – the small town in the green

Dianalund is one of those towns in Sorø Municipality that many people drive through without stopping. That is a mistake. The town sits on a hilltop in the middle of one of central Zealand's most varied landscapes, with deep forests to the south, open farmland to the north and a number of small lakes and ponds in the surrounding terrain. Dianalund grew up as a station town on the now-closed railway between Slagelse and Høng, and the town has retained a quiet, rural character that makes it a pleasant starting point for walking.

The routes of Dianaloopet

The three routes in Dianaloopet are designed to cover different distances and landscape types. The shortest route stays close to town and takes you through Dianalund's green spaces and parks. The longer routes stretch out into the open countryside and into the nearby forests, where you can experience the undulating moraine landscape that is characteristic of this part of Zealand. All three routes are marked and easy to follow, and the terrain varies from paved paths in town to gravel tracks and forest trails further out.

Nature and landscape around Dianalund

The landscape around Dianalund was shaped by the ice age. It is a moraine landscape of gentle hills, deep valleys and scattered woods alternating with open fields. To the south lie the large forests around Tersløse and Lynge. To the west the landscape opens towards Store Åmose, one of Northern Europe's most important wetlands. In the woods around Dianalund you will find beech, oak and ash, and in the open land you may encounter hares, pheasants and foxes.

From Dianalund it is a short distance to several of West Zealand's best nature experiences. Tersløse Bøgeskov lies a few kilometres to the south and offers quiet forest walks in old deciduous woodland. To the west you can visit Store Åmose, where bird towers provide views across the vast wetland.
