The Houg at Kalundborg is a classic harbour fishing spot where the chances of a catch are good all year round across the different parts of the harbour. Harbour fishing is the easy way into angling: firm ground underfoot, a short walk from the car and deep water right up against the quays and breakwaters.

It is that depth which makes the harbour interesting. Fish move into the basins and along the moles, where current and shelter gather food – and where the water can be covered with simple tackle. That makes the spot suitable for the experienced angler out for a short evening session as well as for the family giving the children their first taste of fishing without waders or a long drive.

Kalundborg's working harbour adds another dimension to the trip: the commercial port in use, the fjord framed by the Røsnæs and Asnæs peninsulas, and the town's medieval profile with the five-towered Church of Our Lady behind you. You fish quite literally with the history of the town at your back.

Remember a valid fishing licence, and respect signage and working areas in the harbour. Find more fishing spots along the coast – from Røsnæs to the Great Belt – in the angling guide at Destination Sjælland.
