The Gudenå Trail stage 5 - The Uncovered Bridge to Voervadsbro
This 8-kilometre stretch of the Gudenå Trail leads you along traffic-free paths and quiet country roads to the cosy village of Voervadsbro.

Hiking at The Uncovered Bridge
The Uncovered Bridge is a popular nature attraction, and this is exactly where this stage of the Gudenå Trail begins. Here, it is well worth enjoying the view by the bridge, and there are good parking facilities, toilets and spots to rest. The old railway bridge once formed part of the now-closed line between Horsens and Silkeborg, which in its day was known as Denmark’s most beautiful railway. Today, the route has been surfaced with asphalt and is ideal for both walkers and cyclists.
About the route
The first part of the route is on asphalted road as it follows the railway path between Horsens and Silkeborg. Here, there is no car traffic, instead the path is shared by walkers and cyclists.
Most of the route follows Birknæsvej, a charming country road. The surface starts as asphalt before turning to gravel further along. Traffic is generally light and becomes even quieter as you head north. Most of Birknæsvej passes through hilly and open fields, with occasional stretches of forest. Along Birknæsvej, you will pass Fyelmose Put & Take and Fyel Bathing Lake. The final stretch towards Voervadsbro runs alongside the busy Ryvej, however, when walking this stretch you remain separated from traffic on a gravel path for walkers and cyclists.
Transport and accomendation
Close to The Uncovered Bridge you will find Vestbirk Camping, offering overnight stays in cabins, safari tents or your own tent.
At the other end of the route lies Voervadsbro, where you can stay overnight at Voervadsbro Campsite (Voervadsbro Teltplads). Alternatively, you can book accommodation at MolaMola Workshop, which offers a fully equipped apartment for rent.
Regional bus 112 runs along the route. Most departures run from Horsens to Vestbirk near The Uncovered Bridge, but a few continue to Voervadsbro – particularly during weekday rush hours. From Voervadsbro, you can also catch bus 502, which runs between Brædstrup and Skanderborg.
During the summer months, you can hop on the free Modstrømsbussen, which runs once a day in the late afternoon along the Gudenå River heading south. It stops at both Voervadsbro Campsite and Vestbirk Camping.
