9 of the best beach hotels in Denmark

Called 'badehoteller' in Danish, this type of seaside hotel is for you if you like the finer things in life. We're talking gourmet restaurants, luxurious settings, sea views at every turn and a spa too, if you're lucky.

These aren't your usual seaside hotels: Denmark's beach hotels have more in common with luxury and boutique hotels in The Hamptons and St Ives than anything you'd find in Torquay. It's all laid-back luxury and white sand beaches (and we'd like to come too, if that's OK with you...)

The wealthy upper class started visiting seaside hotels in Denmark in the 19th century as an escape from their busy lives. In recent years, the idea of the simple life at a Danish seaside hotel has enjoyed a huge renaissance for just the same reason.

Many seaside hotels are open all year. In summer, you can stroll along the beach and explore the cosy towns; while in winter, you might want to grab a book and snuggle up by the fire while listening to the weather and the sea outside (or even use it as an excuse to try winter bathing). Whatever time of year you come, you can be sure of a treat.
